Released on November 7, 1995, Alice in Chains, also commonly referred to as Tripod, The Dog Album and The Dog Record, due to its lack of an official album title aside from the band's name, was the 3rd full length album by the legendary alternative grunge rock band. Both the band's last album with Columbia Records and with lead singer, Layne Staley, who passed away in 2002, the Alice in Chains album featured the hits Grind, Heaven Beside You and Again, with Grind and Again being nominated for Grammy Awards. Despite the heavy subject matter of the lyrics including isolation, depression and drug abuse, the Alice in Chains album sold over 3 million copies certifying it as double platinum.
