Released on March 3, 1986, by Elektra Records, Master of Puppets was Metallica's debut album with a major recording label, and their last with bassist Cliff Burton, who died in a bus accident during Metallica's Master of Puppets promotional tour, in Sweden. Critically well received, Master of Puppets is considered one of the greatest and most influential heavy metal albums of all time and was the first in the thrash metal genre to be certified Platinum. By 2003, Master of Puppets had been certified 6X Platinum.
