Released on June 17, 1997, Cryptic Writings is Megadeth's 7th studio album and was their last with longtime drummer, Nick Menza. With a lean toward more radio friendly hit songs, Cryptic Writings was commercially successful while the critics were dismayed by Megadeth's departure from their more thrash metal roots. The album debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by October of 1997, with the track Trust being nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 1998 Grammy Awards.
