FOREIGNER: 4 for 50 Deluxe Edition Release + Tour
Classic rock stalwarts and 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, Foreigner, are celebrating their 50th anniversary and, to honor this major milestone, the band is releasing a very deluxe edition of their legendary album, 4.
Recorded at Jimi Hendrix’s New York City based Electric Lady Studios, 4 was produced by uber-producer Mutt Lange, and was originally released, by Atlantic Records, 44 years ago, on July 12, 1981. Taking over 2 years to complete and featuring the hit songs, “Urgent,” “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” and “Juke Box Hero,” 4 catapulted itself to a 6x Platinum certification and spent more weeks at the top of the Billboard charts than any other Atlantic Records release.
The anniversary deluxe reissue is scheduled to be released on September 12 as a 5 CD/Blue-ray package with newly remastered stereo or ATMOS version tracks, as well as being available on black vinyl and other formats. In addition to the familiar version of 4 we all know and love, the deluxe set will also feature five previously unreleased songs, 14 early and alternate versions of various songs, 15 instrumentals and 15 live performances from the band's 1981-82 world tour. In addition, the digital deluxe release will also contain alternate versions, instrumentals + live performances from the era. A booklet featuring 60 premium photographs will accompany.
In support of the release of the 4 deluxe edition and the band’s 50th anniversary, Foreigner are currently touring, as well. Called the Foreigner 4 Deluxe Tour, the band is planning to replace current lead vocalist, Kelly Hansen, with Luis Maldonado. Original singer, Lou Gramm, will also be performing vocal duties on a select number of songs as well. Hansen is currently touring with Foreigner through November, and Maldonado will take over starting in December.
Luis Maldonado is no stranger to Foreigner, as the band introduced him to fans during the South American leg of this tour, last April, and he has since gone on to record Spanish versions of Foreigner hits. His official first North American shows will take place on December 3 and 4, at Port Chester, New York.
