This tour was performed in support of Iron Maiden's latest album, at the time, titled The Number of the Beast. The first to feature current lead vocalist and pilot, Bruce Dickinson, while being their last with drummer Clive Burr, The Number of the Beast was also Maiden's first album to top the UK Album Chart and chart in the top 40 of the Billboard Top 200, due in large part to the singles Run to the Hills and title track The Number of the Beast.
