Released in December, 1970, Pendulum was actually the second album that CCR released in 1970, with Cosmo's Factory reaching record store shelves just 5 months prior. Critically and commerically well received, Pendulum saw the band expanding their instrumentation with the inclusion of keyboards and saxophones, rather than heavy reliance on guitars, yet only featured one hit single, Have You Ever Seen the Rain/Hey Tonight. Pendulum was the last CCR album to be produced, solely, by John Fogerty and was their last album with Tom Fogerty.
