APRIL 28, 2015: The 35th Anniversary of Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart Music Video
April 28, 2015 marked the 35th anniversary for the music video of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart." This was the only music video the band recorded themselves and filmed it at T.J. Davidson's Studio where the band used to rehearse. On the door is carved Ian C, supposedly by an ex-girlfriend of Joy Division's lead singer, Ian Curtis.
"Love Will Tear Us Apart" was penned by Curtis, as a retort to Neil Sedaka's "Love Will Keep Us Together," made famous by The Captain and Tenille, while, at the same time, referencing Ian's own failing marriage to Deborah Curtis. The song became the only charted hit for the band, and it is one of the very few songs where Ian is seen playing the guitar. The video for "Love Will Tear Us Apart" was filmed less than 3 weeks before Ian Curtis took his own life. Ian's depression is intensely seen in the video.
